Biking

Scenic Marina del Rey is located along the Marvin Braude Coastal Bike Trail, a 22-mile coastal path between Will Rogers beach at the north end, and Torrance beach at the south end. Click this link to download a map of the route, including parking and restroom facility indicators. Many leisure cyclists break at the Marina’s Fisherman’s Village (13737 Fiji Way), where on weekends you can grab an ice cream cone and listen to free concerts on the plaza. Likewise, you can park your vehicle at the village (pay lot #1) and ride from there. Daniel’s Bicycle Rentals & Sale is also located at the village and offers hourly and daily rentals. A few local hotels have rental bikes available for their guests; inquire with your hotel concierge or front desk.

Burke Marina Walk Promenade

This wide paved path meanders around the Marina and offers unobstructed views of boats in the harbor. Enjoy a stroll along the promenade from any waterfront hotel to restaurants on Admiralty Way – the path makes it easy to plan a progressive dinner, sans car.

Burton Chace Park Walking Club

Get some exercise while taking in the beautiful views of L.A.’s Marina at the waterfront Burton Chace Park. The club is free to join and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays (year-round) 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the park.

Fisherman's Village

Fisherman’s Village is a replica of a New England seaport and fishing town. You can stroll the quiet harborfront to enjoy views of the Marina, passing sailboats, and wildlife. There are several restaurants, the Marina del Rey Historical Society’s exhibit space, and a smattering of shops.

The Ultimate Escape Room is now open at Fisherman’s Village. This attraction invites groups of two to eight people to solve a series of puzzles, find clues, and escape the room within a set time limit. Click here for more information. Check out the art gallery, Counsel and Canvas Art, which recently opened closer to the water toward the Marina del Rey Sportfishing dock. 

Free live music is offered on the plaza on Sunday afternoons year-round (weather depending); find the current lineup in our events calendar. The village is the boarding place for City Cruises year-round dining cruises and Marina del Rey Parasailing (closed November-February), as well as one of the Marina’s destinations for hourly and daily rentals of sailing and power boats, jet skis, kayaks, and paddle boards. Fisherman’s Village also serves as one of eight pick-up/drop-off locations for the WaterBus (operates during the summer only). Parking is available onsite for $2 (up to 2 hours), $4 ( 2-4 hours) with a daily max of $8.

Held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Locals gather in this beachside setting to shop for fresh fruits and vegetables, sample bites from vendors, enjoy sweet desserts, and admire hand-crafted gift items and floral arrangements. The Marina del Rey Farmers Market is held in County Parking Lot #11, located at the corner of Via Marina & Panay Way, next to The Cheesecake Factory. Parking is available for .25 per 10 minutes or $1.50 per hour. 

 

Marina del Rey Wetland Park

Via Marina and Tahiti Way, Marina del Rey

This 0.75 acre tidal salt marsh on Tahiti Way and Via Marina was recently restored by The County of Los Angeles. The Wetland Park now features a habitat that supports a full suite of plant species adapted in life for wetlands that are submerged up to twice a day by the tides. Passersby can get a glimpse of shorebirds (sandpipers and plovers), waterfowl (ducks and geese), wading birds (herons and egrets), and songbirds. Historically, this site was part of the Ballona Wetland complex and inhabited wildlife such as ducks, fish and birds. As part of the restoration program, The County of Los Angeles added public walking paths, observation areas and educational signage for the public to enjoy this ecological resource.

 

Marina Racquet Club

North Jetty and Marina Peninsula

Visit this narrow promenade for spectacular views of the Marina’s main channel. From this vantage point, you can observe airplanes taking off from LAX and flying out over the Pacific. The adjacent neighborhood (the “Silver Strand”) offers a walking path that parallels the Grand Canal, a footbridge to the beach, and an inviting oceanfront path. Limited metered parking is available along Via Marina at Pacific Avenue. L.A. County Parking Lot #13 at 4601 Via Marina has additional spaces and a pay-and-display kiosk.

Pier & Jetty Fishing


Find your next catch in the Marina. Licensed fishing is permitted at the north and south jetties, as well as Venice Pier, which doesn’t require a license. Licenses and bait are easy to buy at West Marine and/or Marina del Rey Sportfishing’s bait dock (located at Fisherman’s Village).

South Jetty Promenade


Walk from Fisherman’s Village on Fiji Way and follow this promenade (also the Marvin Braude Coastal Bike Trail at this point) all the way to the ocean. Immediately south is Ballona Creek, then Playa del Rey and Dockweiler Beach. Keep an eye out for a great blue heron in the adjacent Ballona Wetlands. Take in the sunset and views of sailboats leaving the harbor for Santa Monica Bay.

Venice Pier & Washington Square


The Venice Pier is easy walking or biking distance from the north side of the Marina. Much quieter than the nearby Santa Monica Pier (which houses its own amusement park), the Venice Pier is a wonderful place for a quiet stroll to take in beach views or a quintessential sunset. A parking lot is located on-site; in the key summer months, it usually fills early. Rent bikes at the pier from Perry’s and hit the Marvin Braude Coastal Bike Trail—head north to explore the Venice Beach Boardwalk and Santa Monica. Washington Boulevard dead-ends at the Venice Pier, and the final block (locally referred to as Washington Square) is chock-full of restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops. Turn onto Dell off of Washington to find the famous Venice Canals.
